MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — The Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) said a UPS employee was arrested and charged after stealing and selling packages.

Police said that on Nov. 21, 2023, at about 4:30 p.m., they received a report of a theft.

The victim said he sent five gold coins through the UPS store at 11160 Viers Mills Road and when the package arrived at its destination, there were only two gold coins.

On April 1, the victim told police that the same two coins were found at a coin shop on Wayne Ave.

Through the investigation, police identified 26-year-old Adela Beatriz Orellana, of Hyattsville as the suspect.

Orellana was arrested and charged with multiple counts of theft for stealing the contents of UPS packages while working at UPS and selling the stolen contents at local pawn shops.

Orellana turned herself in to the police on June 26.

She was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where she was released after paying bond.
