    Local organizations to host 8th annual Community Day and Wellness Fair in DC

    WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — The Places of Worship Advisory Board (POWAB) will host its 8th annual Community Day and Wellness Fair in Ward 7 on Aug. 24.

    With violence and health being a top concern for many, this year’s theme is “Violence and It’s Impact on Health and Wellness.” The goal is to provide the Ward 7 Community with resources to promote whole-person health in mind, body, and spirit while bringing communities, friends, and families together for an entire day.

    National Book Festival returns to DC; top authors headline

    Starting at 2 p.m. at Marshall Heights Community Development Center, there will be free food available for 2,000 residents, and giveaways including vegetables, fruit, free clothes, and live performances for everyone to enjoy.

    Children can receive school supplies, dental exams, mental health and grief counseling, and vaccinations, health screenings for adults, Naloxone training and behavioral counseling.

    The annual POWAB Community Day and Wellness Fair partners with several organizations including Marshall Heights, Damien Ministries, DMV Faith in Action, East River Family Strengthening Collaborative, MedStar Health, and United Health Care.
