Frederick County firefighters rescue people after restaurant fire starts in building

FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Officials said firefighters in Frederick County rescued multiple people after a fire broke out at a restaurant on Tuesday morning.

Just before 9:30 a.m., crews with the Frederick County Fire and Rescue were called to the 100 block of N Market for a building on fire with people trapped inside.

Once on the scene, firefighters found smoke coming from two buildings. Officials said both buildings were composed of two restaurants, River Bar and Grill and Tequila Bar & Grill, in the front with apartments located in the back.

As firefighters searched the business, they found two people trapped on the roof of each building and brought them down to safety. Officials said two more people were also assisted out of the building.

County officials said firefighters contained the blaze within 20 minutes and kept the flames from spreading to nearby buildings.

One person was evaluated by medics at the scene and declined further treatment. There were no reported injuries.

As a result,11 people were displaced and were being assisted by the American Red Cross, according to officials.

As of 2:30 p.m., the Frederick County Fire Marshal’s Office was on the scene. Officials said N Market Street from Patrick to 3rd Street remained closed.
