School Board Meets July 22
The Board of Education met Monday evening, July 22 with all members present and Superintendent Anderson absent. With no visitor, the board went into executive session at 6:31. Returning to open session at 7:20, consent agenda #1 was approved unanimously. It included: previous board meeting and special board meeting minutes; currents bills approved and ordered paid; Treasurer Report approved; Student Handbook 24-25 second reading; Staff Handbook 24-25 second reading; Support Guide 24-25 second reading; PRESS Policy 115 updates first reading; and School Activity Accounts 4th quarter reports.
City of Crown Point celebrates family, community, local businesses at A Taste of Crown Point 2024 event
On the sunny evening of Friday, July 19, the City of Crown Point hosted the first day of its annual Taste of Crown Point event at Bulldog Park. Over 25 Crown Point-based food trucks and restaurants set up stalls to serve up their delicious products for attendees. This year’s installment of A Taste of Crown Point also featured live music, a splash pad, cornhole, and face painting. Crown Point residents and visitors from throughout the Region were in attendance. Mayor of Crown Point Pete Land believes that a Taste of Crown Point event is one of the most significant events the city puts on.

Hobart animal rescue crowdfunds care for neglected horses left at gate
Two horses bearing signs of serious neglect are receiving medical care after they were dropped off at a Hobart animal rescue early on Friday morning. Erin Yanz, the founder and executive director of the nonprofit Erin's Farm, told The Times that the animals, a gelding and a mare, were left tied to the farm's front gate on South Liverpool Road sometime before 5:00 a.m.

Gary man sentenced to 55 years for murdering man outside his mother’s home
CROWN POINT — A Gary man was sentenced to 55 years in prison Thursday afternoon for the murder of a 23-year-old outside the slain man's mother's home. Virgil King, 24, was sentenced to 50 years for the murder of Daqwuan Walker, 23, plus five years on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, according to court records.
