Valparaiso Police Hiring for Part-Time Crossing Guards
The Valparaiso Police Department is accepting interest for part-time crossing guard positions, with several openings currently available. The part-time position could lead to a full-time assignment if so desired, and when available. The assignment is to assist students in crossing streets at designated intersections throughout the City of Valparaiso and will require morning and afternoon availability. The current openings will assist in covering crossings on an as needed basis.

The Valparaiso community was treated with a health and wellness fair presented by the Porter County Health Department on Friday, June 14. Illinois Man Says He Was Fired From Trucking Company For Not Cutting His Dreadlocks Despite White Employees Being Allowed To Have White Hair
Drew Harvey, 26, of Crete, Illinois, was a recent hire at an Iowa trucking company, and he alleges that he was fired for refusing to cut off his dreadlocks. According to the Des Moines Register, Harvey traveled to Des Moines, Iowa, for his new role with TMC Transportation. He began training on June 23, but he alleges that he was wrongfully terminated the following day due to his hairstyle.

Indiana Road Closures: Hart Street in Dyer to Temporarily Close for Utility Work
Dyer, IN – Hart Street at Stech Street will be temporarily closed from Monday night, July 22, to Wednesday, July 24, for a water utility improvement project. Manhunt Over, Suspect Arrested
The manhunt for a suspect wanted in both Madison and Eau Claire has ended in Indiana. The U.S. Marshals yesterday said they arrested Jerome Jacobs, Jr. in Gary, Indiana. He’s wanted in connection to a shooting in Madison. Police in Eau Claire were the last to spot him in Wisconsin, but they say he had some help in escaping. Madison Police say Jacobs fired nearly 20 shots at the home of the mother of his children back in June. One person was hit in the forehead. The Marshals say Jacobs will be brought back to Madison to face charges.

North Judson Town Council Accepts Generous Donation
The North Judson Town Council received a generous gift from the Ober Arbor Gleaners during their meeting Monday, July 15. Gleaner Member Mark Rippy appeared before the town council previously and asked how the organization could help in terms of projects in the park or other needs in the town. The council members said the purchase of picnic tables to compliment the Town Park improvement project would be great upon the approval of the organization.
