Catch Cobb Athletes in Olympic Action Now

With the Olympics entering its second week, we're finally getting to see all four Cobb County residents on Team USA perform in their respective sports at the quadrinniel event in Paris.

Cobb County athletes competing in the 2024 Olympics include:

• DEARICA HAMBY, 3x3 Women's Basketball
• DANIEL HAUGH, Men's Hammer Throw
• HAMPTON MORRIS, Weightlifting, Men's 61 kg
• EMILY SONNETT, Women's Soccer

The four Cobb County athletes are among 20 Georgia residents competing at the Paris Olympics. The Georgia roster includes only athletes who list their hometowns within the state of Georgia. Thus, former UGA swimmer and silver medal winner Nic Fink is listed not from Georgia, but from his hometown in Morristown, New Jersey.

The listing of athletes and their hometowns comes from the official roster of the USA Olympic Team published by the US Olympic Committee.

For Hamby, the US Women's 3x3 team won it's first game of the Olympics on Thursday, keeping them alive in the tournament. Women's 3x3 basketball continues on Friday and Saturday.

Emily Sonnett and the US Women's soccer team are in action again Saturday morning in the women's quarterfinal against Japan in a knock-out game. If they win, Team USA will continue on to the semifinals.

For Haugh and Morris, their events are upcoming when track and field starts in week 2. Haugh competes in the preliminary rounds of the hammer throw on Friday, Aug. 2 Morris will compete on Aug. 7 in the men's 61 kg weightlifting events.
