Eagles fly past Saints in districts win
AFTON — The Eagles (16-6) put their offense on display Saturday at home against Mormon Trail (6-9), winning 11-1 in six innings to advance in district play. Sophomore Paul McNeill went 3-4 at bat for two RBIs and a run to lead the Eagles batting. Terrian Islas and Ty Tallmon both went 2-3 at bat. Islas had two runs and one RBI while Tallmon had one run and two RBIs.

Marjorie Jean Parkhurst, 1925 – 2024
Cainsville, MO: Marjorie Jean (Meinecke) Parkhurst was born on November 27, 1925, to Margaret (Thompson) and Leroy Meinecke near Gosher, MO. She passed away at the age of 98 while residing at Pearl’s II nursing home in Princeton, MO. Marjorie has lived in and around the Cainsville area her entire life. Her early school years were at the Moss and Cain country schools. When Marjorie was older her family moved to Cainsville where she graduated from Cainsville R-1 School in 1943. On August 14, 1943, Marjorie married Leland Parkhurst at the Princeton Courthouse and celebrated their 80th wedding anniversary last year. Marjorie and Leland were blessed with two sons, Larry Wayne, and Wesley Allen.

TA TRAVEL CENTER WATER LINE MOVE APPROVED — The Decatur City Council approved rerouting the path of the 12-inch water line that will serve the future TA Travel Center at U.S. 81/287 and County Road 4127 Monday night. The alternate route will add 1,140 feet of pipe to the project that would go to existing development north of the proposed truck stop. The original pipe path went along the highway frontage. Decatur City Manager Nate Mara said the amended route was in the best interest of both area property owners and the city. The city will look to use recently issued capital to cover the cost of the change after another project came in under budget. In other business, the council approved entering into a professional services proposal with Fitzpatrick Design Construction Services Group, LLC for the pre-construction phase of a second Decatur Fire Department station. GRM Networks grants $3,750 to support community projects
GRM Networks has awarded a total of $3,750 as part of its Community Improvement Grant program. The recipients of the first semiannual distribution for the 2024 calendar year are Decatur County Public Health of Leon, Iowa; the Stacy Multipurpose Center of Princeton, Missouri; the Harrison County Council on Aging of Bethany, Missouri, and the Mercer County Food Pantry of Princeton, Missouri.
Panther Softball Score 20 Runs on Eagles
The Panorama Panther softball team had their final regular season game in Afton against the East Union Eagles, resulting in the Panthers claiming a 20-8 victory over the Eagles. Panorama would score a run in the top of the first but East Union would respond quickly and take the lead, notching in three runs of their own in the bottom of the first. This would light a fire under the Panthers, who would score six runs to take a 7-3 lead and would not look back. Panorama would score every inning, and would notch in another six runs in the final inning of the contest resulting in a 20-8 landslide victory for the Panorama Panthers.

The Clarke Indians will head out on the road to square off against the Boone Toreadors at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Clarke is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. Clarke's hitters might be in the hot seat on Monday considering what happened against Wayne on Monday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 6-0 to the Falcons, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Osceola Library offers digital piano for public use
The Osceola Public Library has added another amenity to their roster of items available to the public for use - a digital piano. The piano was purchased by the library as an availability for people to use if they don’t have a piano at home or access to one otherwise. The library also hosts different programs throughout the year, and the piano can be used at those if needed. A digital piano is an electric keyboard that is made to sound and feel like a traditional acoustic piano, however it is portable and has volume control.
Melcher-Dallas Baseball Holds On To Beat Central Decatur
The Melcher-Dallas Baseball Squad jumped out to a big lead and held on for an 8-6 win over Central Decatur on Wednesday. The Saints had a 6-2 lead heading into the 3rd inning, when the Cardinals tied the game with four runs in the 4th inning. But the Saints scored one in their half of the 4th and added another in the 6th. Reece Chiabotta had two RBIs for Melcher-Dallas. The Saints pitching threw ten strikeouts and scattered six hits. The Saints finish the regular season at 4-15 and will play North Mahaska Saturday in the first round of the class 1A district at Twin Cedars.
Osceola Rotary Club holds sock drive
Through the months of June and July, the Osceola Rotary Club has been hosting a new type of community fundraiser to benefit local students - a sock drive. “The Rotary Club was looking to have a project that we could get the community involved in to benefit students at both Clarke and Murray Schools,” said Rotary president Teresa Woods.
Clarke softball has tough week
Clarke softball went 0-3 in games last week against opponents Cardinal, Dowling Catholic and Knoxville. Against Knoxville on Thursday, June 27, Clarke held the Lady Panthers to just six runs over six innings, but didn’t manage to get any runs themselves. The Lady Indians had six total hits - one each from Maisy McCoy, Ali Henry, Maddy McCoy, Tory Henry, Reese Shaw and Liliana Contreras. Tory Henry had one successful stolen base attempt.

Clarke Sends Perry Home With Loss
The Bluejays fell last night in Osceola to Clarke. The Indians picked up the 10-2 win. Clarke jumped all over Perry pitching as they scored in every inning. The Bluejays offense would score their first run of the game in the fourth. The Indians had already pulled ahead, 5-0, when that happened. Clarke grabbed their first win over the Bluejays. Perry had won the previous 7 match ups. This is the third straight loss and the Bluejays have given up over 10 runs in all of them.
Mustangs move to 6-12
The Murray Mustangs had one win and two losses in games last week. Their win came on Tuesday on the road at Moulton-Udell, where they beat the Eagles 8-3. Freshman Keegan Chew had two runs in the game, with the other six coming from Caden Page, Kace Patton, Wyatt Patton, Issac West, Bryson Fuller and Wylee Wright. Page had three runs batted in and Fuller had two of a team seven.
