Christina Applegate Reveals How ‘Below Deck’ And ‘Vanderpump Rules’ Help Her Cope With Multiple Sclerosis

Christina Applegate uses a rather surprising coping mechanism when it comes to her multiple sclerosis: Reality television.

The Dead to Me actress revealed during a recent appearance on James Corden ‘s This Life of Mine show on Sirius XM that she finds reality television to be “very useful,” and noted that it’s practically the only thing she turns to.

“Anyone who knows me well knows that it’s on 24/7 in my room, because I don’t leave my room very often. I know that that sounds really depressing but it’s kind of, like, I just need to sleep sometimes,” she explained. “Yeah, reality TV. Everything. Give me any of it.”

And she really means any of it.

“Give me a Vanderpump . Give me a Below Deck . Give me a Housewife ,” she said. “Even give me Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsay . I’ll watch like nine seasons of that in like two days.”

Applegate had an interesting explanation as to why, as well.

“I love watching the imperfections of real people. Really, like, wow, those people exist. I love that,” she said. “That’s why I love reality TV. Because they freak me out that they walk this Earth acting like that.”

The actress has been vocal about her passion for reality television. She even weighed in on the recent season of Love Island USA and shared a major complaint she had with the contestants and production after having watched all of the seasons.

“Now you all are very attractive people, please use clear deodorant!!!” she demanded in a post on X. “The white puss looking shit in the folds is not bueno. This is just me helping you be the best version of you. Haha.”

She wrote that “white deodorant on the armpits in the heat is gross” and reminds her of a “yeast infection.”

Applegate was even asked to join the cast of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills at some point before she was diagnosed with MS, though she clearly turned it down.

The actress revealed this during an episode of her MeSsy podcast, which she co-hosts with her good friend, actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler , who also has MS.

“What’s funny is I ended up becoming really good friends with the executive producer of it because our kids went to school together,” she recalled. “He’s like, ‘Oh yeah, we asked you.’ I said, ‘Chris, now that you know me, would I have been a fun housewife?’”

She said, “He’s like, ‘No, it would’ve been the most boring shit I’ve ever seen in my life.’”
