The A24 -produced series starring Rashida Jones, aired its Season 1 finale — aptly titled, “The Dark Manual” — on Wednesday, September 4. The episode finally answered some long-held burning questions, but after the end credits rolled, there were a number of storylines that could be explored in the future as well, should Sunny get green-lit for a second season.

Here’s what we know about the future of Sunny on Apple TV+.

As of Season 1’s finale premiere date, Wednesday, September 4, Apple TV+ had yet to renew or cancel Sunny , which means there’s still hope for a potential Season 2. Ultimately, we’ll have to wait and see if the series received a big enough reception from Apple TV+ subscribers to earn itself a second season, but based on the popularity of A24 projects, Sunny ‘s 90% Tomatometer rating , Jones’ involvement, and Sunny ‘s stellar cast, we’d say there’s a fairly good chance the show could return.

On top of a powerful performance from Jones, Judy Ongg, annie the clumsy, and Hidetoshi Nishijima are also great in the series — as is Joanna Sotomura’s voice acting for Sunny. In addition to incredible talents behind the camera, there’s also some serious Season 2 plot potential in the Season 1 finale.

The Season 1, Episode 10 synopsis reads, “After learning the truth, Suzie fights for what matters most.” But did Suzie learn all the truth she needed to? Is Masa really dead? Do Mixxy’s loyalties really lie with Himé? And what does the future have in store for Suzie, Noriko, Zen, and of course, Sunny? Masa’s finale voiceover gave fans hope that Sunny could return for Season 2 and that maybe, just maybe, he and Suzie could reunite somehow. So fingers crossed and here’s hoping we haven’t seen the last of this Apple TV+ story just yet.
