Edie Falco is clarifying some controversial comments she made about Avatar: The Way Of Water after her words reportedly landed her in some hot water with James Cameron himself.

During a visit to The View in 2022, Falco joked that she thought the film did not do well in the box office because she didn’t hear anyone talking about it. Turns out, the film simply hadn’t been released yet.

“The second Avatar , the one that’s coming out I shot it, I think, four years ago. I’ve been busy, I’m doing stuff. And somebody mentioned Avatar , and I’m like, ‘I guess it came out and it didn’t do very well because I didn’t hear anything.’ I mean, it happens!” she recalled . “And then somebody recently said, ‘Oh, Avatar ‘s coming out!’ And I said, ‘Oh, it hasn’t come out yet?'”

She then added to The View host Joy Behar , “I will never work again because I said that.”

But during a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show With Julia Cunningham , Falco clarified what she meant by the comment and revealed that she got an earful from some “very important people” after that appearance.

“I heard straight from the source who was with [Cameron] when he heard that I had said that, that it did not go well,” she said. “I took a lot of flack for that.”

The Sopranos star explained, “All I was saying is I’m a jerk. I never know what’s going on with my life.” She said she made the comment to illustrate that she “wouldn’t know” what’s going on with any of her movies, no matter how successful they become, because she doesn’t keep up with her projects once she’s done acting.

“I love the part of doing it,” she said. “The part of watching, it has nothing to do with me.”

Falco continued, “Things can come out or they don’t. They do well or they disappear. They go straight to video or nobody finishes. I have no idea ’cause it often doesn’t affect my life in any way. My part of what I do is done.”

“I make these things, I do the job, I say goodbye to everybody, and then I’m done,” she explained. “Then I’m onto the next thing. I have no idea what happens to things after I’m done.”

But, regarding the flippant comment she made on The View , she joked, “I am a dolt.”

During that visit to The View , Falco expressed that she was disappointed that she wasn’t cast to play one of the Na’vi because she “wanted to be blue.” So The View ladies turned some of her most iconic roles – including Carmela Soprano and Nurse Jackie – blue .

“Do you feel better now?” Sara Haines asked her at the time, to which Falco replied, “Not so much, actually.”
