City of Dubuque to Offer Free Storm Damage Collection
Following the significant derecho that impacted Dubuque on Monday, July 15, the City of Dubuque is offering residents a free collection service for storm-damaged tree limbs and branches. One person flown to the hospital after Charles City auto accident
CHARLES CITY, Iowa – One person was flown to the hospital after a two-vehicle accident Wednesday morning. Charles City Fire Rescue says it was called to the accident south of town around 5:15 am and arrived to find two cars with significant damage. One person was already receiving medical treatment by AMR Ambulance Service. A second person had to be removed from a vehicle using hydraulic spreaders and cutters.
Tello Agrees to Terms with Philadelphia Phillies
IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa redshirt junior Raider Tello has agreed to terms with the Philadelphia Phillies. The El Monte, California, native led the team hitting .357 in 54 games this season. Tello notched 79 hits, 19 doubles, four triples, and seven home runs. He plated 60 RBIs and scored 51 runs. Tello appeared in 113 career games for Iowa over two seasons with a .335 batting average. He recorded 155 hits, scored 98 runs, hit 33 doubles and had 11 home runs. Pet Ferret Released Into the Wild by Police
The mayor of Cedar Falls has convened a task force after a pet ferret was released into the wild, according to KWWL. Cedar Falls formerly had an animal control contract with Waterloo but decided not to renew that contract last year, instead opting to handle animal control in house. Last week a Cedar Falls officer responded to a call of a ferret underneath a porch. The officer was able to capture the ferret. They then asked their superior what to do with the animal and was advised to release it into the wild. The ferret ended up being an escaped pet named Karma and belonging to Heaven Lickness. Lickness says she has been crying everyday since Karma broke through a barrier in the home and escaped. Mayor Danny Laudick says the police were confused as to if a ferret would be considered a wild animal or a domestic animal and, in his words, they screwed up. Laudick has now put together a task force of council members, public safety members, and representatives from the Cedar Bend Humane Society to determine if the city should continue to keep animal control in house and provide more training or contract it out to a separate entity.
