DEERBROOK — At a March meeting of the Hyland Lakes Lions Club at Quinn’s in Deerbrook, Monarch Chevron Awards were given to commemorate years of service and encourage members to continue making a difference both in their local communities and worldwide.

Carl Thiede and Tim Rusch were awarded for 55 and 20 years of respective service with special recognition letters from Dr. Patti Hill, the international president of the Lion’s Club.

Chevrons are issued in five year intervals once members have been involved in the Lion’s Club for over 10 years.

The Hyland Lakes Lions Club, which has members from the Bryant, Deerbrook, Elcho, and Summit Lake communities, was founded in 1964 and supports sight conservation, hearing and speech conservation, diabetes awareness, youth outreach, environmental issues, measles vaccines, childhood cancer, and many other local programs.

The Lions Club’s International motto is “We Serve,” which to Lions means selfless service to others in need in our local communities. The association is made up of 1.4 million members in 49,000 clubs who bring hands and hearts to other communities we serve in nearly every country on earth.

The Hyland Lakes Lions Club thanks Carl and Tim on their service to our local communities.
