    Deerfield girls track and field wins conference title for the first time since 2003

    After the Deerfield girls track and field team won the Deerfield Classic for the first time in over 20 years, the Demons accomplished another 20-year drought on Friday, May 10.

    Winning the Trailways Conference title.

    With 91 points, Deerfield edged out Dodgeland, who took second with 90.5 points, for the conference crown at Princeton High School, its first title since 2003.

    Junior Brianna Ament broke a 10-year old school record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.01 seconds, finishing third overall in the race. Ament also finished second in the 300-meter hurdles at 47.91 seconds.

    Sophomore Rylee Berryman won the high jump with a mark of five feet and two inches. In the triple jump, Berryman scored a first-place mark of 36 feet and 8.25 inches. Also in the triple jump, junior Maddie Kimmel (29-4.25) took eighth.

    Sophomore Emme Drobac (11:12.75) and junior McKenna Michel (12:23.00) finished second and fourth in the 3200 meter. In the 1600 meter, Drobac (5:10.65) and Michel (5:30.85) took second and fourth overall.

    The 4x800 relay team of junior Piper Ryan, senior Ella Arenz, freshman Madi Ledbury and sophomore Arden Nickerson took second at 10:29.77.

    The 4x200 relay team of Ament, Berryman, Ledbury and freshman Violet Sweger ran third at 1:52.20. Berryman (13.17) took third in the 100-meter dash.

    Drobac (2:28.14) and Ryan (2:28.26) finished fifth and sixth in the 800 meter. Ryan, Arenz, Ledbury and Michel placed sixth in the 4x400 relay at 4:25.75.

    The boys team finished fifth with 52 points. Randolph/Cambria-Friesland won the boys conference title with 100 points.

    Freshman Lane Shortreed, senior Landyn Christianson, senior Robert Thompson and freshman Brady Fleming took second in the 4x800 relay at 8:35.55.

    Senior Cody Curtis (2:01.50) finished third in the 800 meter. Senior Martin Kimmel (4:48.50) ran fourth in the 1600.

    Kimmel, Curtis, senior Eli Key and junior Wyatt Brattlie finished fourth in the 4x400 relay at 3:38.30.

    Junior Zack Hansen (23.44) took fifth in the 200-meter dash. Shortreed (11:14.45) ran fifth in the 3200.

    The 4x200 relay team of Hansen, Brattlie, senior Parker Howard and sophomore Brayden Hein-Berdsley ran fifth at 1:38.56.

    In the pole vault, sophomore Ruben Bach (11-6) and junior Evan Grosvold (11-0) took fifth and seventh.

    Grosvold (18.27) finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles. In the 300-meter hurdles, Key (46.50) and Grosvold (47.83) ran sixth and eighth.

    The 4x100 relay team of sophomore Sam Haines, Brattlie, Howard and Hansen placed sixth at 47.40.

    Regionals begin on Monday, May 20 at 4 p.m. at Deerfield High School. Sectionals will take place on Thursday, May 23 at Horicon High School.

    Trailways-South Division Meet

    The Deerfield track and field team competed at the Trailways-South Division meet on Monday, May 6 at Parkview High School.

    For the boys, junior Zack Hansen won the 200-meter dash in 23.59 seconds. Senior Martin Kimmel (4:43.60) won the 1600 meter.

    In the 800 meter, senior Cody Curtis (2:08.55) ran first, while freshman Brady Fleming (2:15.34) took third.

    Senior Eli Key (15.28) and junior Evan Grosvold (17.75) finished 1-2 in the 110-meter hurdles. Key (43.48) also won the 300-meter hurdles.

    The 4x100 relay team of Hansen, senior Parker Howard, junior Wyatt Brattlie and sophomore Sam Haines finished in first place at 46.80 seconds. The same four ran second in the 4x200 relay at 1:37.67.

    Fleming, freshman Lane Shortreed, senior Robert Thompson and senior Landyn Christianson won the 4x800 relay at 9:27.15.

    Howard (12-3) and Grosvold (11-6) finished 1-2 in the pole vault. In the 3200, Kimmel (10:52.33) and Shortreed (11:28.11) took second and third.

    Key, Curtis, Brattlie and sophomore Brayden Hein-Berdsley ran second in the 4x400 relay at 3:45.75. Brattlie (39-6) took second in the triple jump.

    Junior Dayne Schwoerer (117-4) finished third in the discus throw. Hansen (17-5.25) took third in the long jump.

    For the girls, junior Piper Ryan (2:30.88) and freshman Madi Ledbury (2:34.29) took first and third in the 800 meter.

    Sophomore Emme Drobac won the 1600 meter with a time of 5:31.59, while Ryan (5:37.34) placed second.

    Junior Brianna Ament (50.00) finished in first place in the 300-meter hurdles. Ament (16.47) placed second in the 100-meter hurdles.

    The 4x200 relay team of senior Kylee Lonigro, freshman Violet Sweger, Ament and Ledbury took first place at 1:58.44.

    The 4x400 relay team of Drobac, Ryan, senior Ella Arenz and junior McKenna Michel ran first at 4:30.89.

    Michel, Arenz, Ledbury and sophomore Arden Nickerson won the 4x800 relay in 10:34.60. Sophomore Rylee Berryman placed first in the high jump at five feet and four inches.

    Berryman also won the triple jump in 36 feet and five inches. Berryman (13.27) ran third in the 100-meter dash.

    The 4x100 relay team of Lonigro, Sweger, junior Lauryn Weisensel and senior Grace Dunsirn placed third at 57.68 seconds. Sophomore Madelyn Ayres (29-7.5) scored third in the shot put.
