    Deerfield baseball: Suess throws one-hitter as Demons win against Palmyra-Eagle; Deerfield also wins against Rio

    Senior Adam Suess pitched a one-hitter in a Deerfield 2-0 win over Palmyra-Eagle on Thursday, May 16 at Palmyra-Eagle High School.

    Suess pitched a complete game, recording eight strikeouts and issuing one walk. Of his 100 pitches thrown, Suess recorded 63 strikes.

    At the plate, Deerfield was held in check by the Palmyra-Eagle pitching staff, getting no-hit until the seventh inning.

    After Austin Anderson led off the seventh with a walk, the senior first baseman moved to second on a wild pitch. Anderson then moved to third base on a single from Suess.

    Anderson then scored on a wild pitch during the next at-bat to give Deerfield a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, senior Jackson Drobac scored on a throwing error to give the Demons a 2-0 lead entering the bottom of the seventh.

    In the seventh, Suess struck out the side to clinch the 2-0 win for Deerfield. Suess and junior Aiden Brown recorded Deerfield’s two hits.

    For Palmyra-Eagle, senior Sean Dooley pitched 4 ⅓ innings with 10 strikeouts. Dooley also recorded the lone hit for the Panthers.

    Deerfield is 13-6 overall and is second in the Trailways-South Conference with a record of 10-1. Johnson Creek holds the conference lead with a record of 11-0, while Palmyra-Eagle (17-3, 10-2) is in third place.

    Deerfield 17, Rio 1

    Junior Aiden Brown drove in five runs in a Deerfield baseball 17-1 win over Rio on Tuesday, May 14 at Deerfield High School.

    In the first, Brown hit an RBI single to score senior Jackson Drobac. Brown then hit a triple in second, scoring Drobac and senior Adam Suess. In the third, Brown hit another triple to score senior Austin Anderson and Drobac.

    Brown also pitched for Deerfield, recording five innings in a mercy-rule win. Brown recorded five strikeouts and gave up five hits.

    Also for Deerfield, Suess recorded three RBIs, while Anderson and Drobac both knocked in two runs. Junior Riley Hockett, sophomore Declan Pohlman and junior Stephen Bagley also recorded an RBI.
