A consistent theme for the Deerfield track and field team this season has been winning events, breaking records and winning invitationals.

So naturally in their last race of the season at the WIAA Division 3 State Track and Field Championships, the Demons did what they do best: break records, win events and take home plaques.

The Demons won a total of three events, medaled in six events, broke four school records and the girls team won the Division 3 title on Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1 at UW-La Crosse Veterans Stadium.

Junior Piper Ryan, senior Ella Arenz, junior McKenna Michel and sophomore Emme Drobac won the 4x800 relay at 9:39.96. Their time of 9:39.96 set a new school record in the event which had previously stood for eight years.

Sophomore Rylee Berryman won the high jump with a mark of five feet and six inches. Berryman also won the triple jump with a mark of 38 feet and 2.75 inches, shattering her previous school record in the event by 10 inches.

Drobac placed second in the 3200 at 10:41.13, setting a new blistering school record by 16 seconds. Drobac also medaled with a fifth-place finish in the 1600 at 5:04.81, setting a new school record in the process.

Also competing at state for the Demons, junior Brianna Ament ran ninth in the 100-meter hurdles finals at 15.86. Ament improved a spot from her 10th-place finish in prelims, which was the last qualification spot.

Ament also took 12th in the 300-meter hurdles at 48.72 seconds.

The 4x400 relay team of Berryman, Ament, Ledbury and Arenz took 15th at 4:18.19.

The girls team scored a total of 42 points to win the Division 3 title. Cameron came in second with 39 points.

For the boys, senior Eli Key medaled with a fifth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles at 15.29 seconds. Key also ran 13th in the 300-meter hurdles at 42.60 seconds.

Senior Parker Howard took 12th in the pole vault with a mark of 12 feet. Senior Cody Curtis finished 13th in the 800 meter run at 2:01.80.

The boys 4x800 relay team of freshman Brady Fleming, Curtis, senior Robert Thompson and senior Martin Kimmel placed 15th at 8:35.18.

The boys team scored four points to take 51st in Division 3.
