After earning second team all-conference honors last year, the Trailways-South Conference softball coaches recognized the improvements made by junior Addison Klein this year.

Klein was voted as a unanimous selection on the all-conference first team as four Demons were named all-conference.

“Huge improvements from Addison from last year, especially in the circle,” said Deerfield softball head coach Scott Mack. “You couldn’t ask for anything more out of her.”

Klein, who was also named all-district honorable mention as well, pitched 120 2/3 innings with 123 strikeouts for a 14-10 record.

Klein dropped her ERA by over 1.5 runs from last year, finishing with a 4.35 ERA. Klein also cut back on walks, hit-by-pitches and wild pitches.

In the batter’s box, Klein recorded a .487 batting average with 25 RBIs. Klein hit 10 doubles and recorded one triple.

Junior Cora Nelson earned a spot on the all-conference first team and earned honorable mention all-district as well.

Nelson led the team with five home runs, recording a .473 batting average. Nelson also led the team with 36 RBIs, 45 runs scored and 16 stolen bases.

Defensively, Nelson took over at catcher for the graduated Addison Kapral. Nelson had just one error on the season.

“I wasn’t too concerned with Cora behind the plate because she’s done it for summer ball,” said Mack. “She did a phenomenal job there, the whole year she had like two passed balls.”

Junior Lydia Mack earned second team all-conference honors. Mack hit for a .493 batting average, led the team with 33 singles and recorded 26 RBIs. Mack also earned honorable mention on the all-district team.

Sophomore Rowan Lasack led the team with 38 hits, earning second team all-conference honors. Lasack had 11 stolen bases, hit one home run, drove in 28 runs and recorded a .442 batting average.

With Lasack earning her first all-conference selection, and Mack, Nelson and Klein earning another spot on the team, Deerfield head coach Scott Mack is proud of the achievements and growth of the team.

“Like I told the girls at awards night, it’s just been amazing watching them grow from year to year,” said Mack.
