VAN WERT — A Defiance woman has been arraigned here in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court on two attempted murder charges and five other felonies.

Summer Raye Jones, 34, 1124 Ayersville Ave., pleaded not guilty those two first-degree felonies as well as two counts of felonious assault, each a second-degree felony; two counts of aggravated assault, each a fourth-degree felony; and a charge of domestic violence, a first-degree misdemeanor. A pretrial hearing was scheduled for May 22.

Bond was set at $100,000 cash or commercial surety. If Jones is able to make bond she must go on electronically monitored house arrest with work release and have no contact with the victims, according to court documents.

The indictment alleges that on April 4 she attempted to cause the death of those two persons with a motor vehicle. It also alleges that one of the victims was a family or household member.

The Van Wert Independent newspaper, citing a Van Wert Police document, reported that Jones struck the girlfriend of her ex-boyfriend in that town with a van. The alleged victim was taken to Van Wert Hospital with a leg jury, the paper reported.

Only the victims' initials are mentioned in the indictment.

Jones had been arrested by Defiance police on felony warrants from Van Wert County early on the morning of May 2, and transported to the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio.

Jones is represented by attorney John Hopkins of Ottawa.
