27-year-old arrested tied to Harbor House homicide in Claymont

An arrest has been made by New Castle County police in the fatal shooting at Harbor House Apartments in Claymont on Friday morning .

New Castle County police were called to the 100 block of Harbor Drive after a shooting was reported on the morning of Aug. 23. A 35-year-old man was found shot and was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Residents near the scene reported hearing a stream of gunfire around 10:10 a.m. By around 12:30 p.m., SWAT and patrol officers were seen taking at least three people in handcuffs out of the closed-off area.

New Castle County Police Department announced that the victim of the shooting has been identified as Devontre Taylor of Wilmington.

Following their investigation, detectives from the Major Crimes Squad and Evidence Detection Squad identified the suspect as 27-year-old Michael Toombs of Claymont, who was in police custody. He was arraigned at the New Castle County police headquarters on Aug. 23 and charged with six counts including first-degree murder and first-degree robbery.

Toombs was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of a $950,000 cash bail.
