The chance for severe storms became a reality Monday afternoon in central North Carolina.Shortly before 3:15 p.m. a severe thunderstorm pushed through Durham, Granville, Wake and Franklin counties for a little over an hour.The storm brought flash flooding to some areas, including a service road along side 15-501 in Durham. The driver of a white truck crashed into a hole in the ground while trying to cut the corner and avoid the flooded part of the service road.Dangerously, the crashed truck rested on top of a natural gas line. Equipment Financing Company Moves Into New Downtown Office
A growing Wilmington fintech firm moved into a new downtown office earlier this month. Approve, a company that offers a financing and payment platform for equipment sellers, relocated its headquarters from the Cotton Exchange to the corner of Third and Grace streets in early July. The event will be at the UNCW Burney Center at 1005 Price Dr., with registration at 3:30 p.m., a Purple Heart Reception at 4 p.m., sponsors and the general public coming in at 4:15 p.m. and dinner at 5 p.m.
Police searching for man suspected of armed robbery; suspect may still be armed
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The Wilmington Police Department is searching for a man suspected in an armed robbery at Bottega on Sunday, July 21, at around 5 p.m. Per the WPD, the suspect is in his 30s with a buzz cut, stocky and is wearing a grey shirt and jeans.

A popular bar and venue on North Fourth Street in Wilmington was the site of an armed robbery over the weekend. Addie Wuensch, owner of Bottega Art & Wine at 723 N. Fourth St. in downtown's Brooklyn Arts District, said a man came into her establishment around 4:50 p.m. Sunday and "pretended like he wanted to buy a soda. He paid with a card (but) it was declined."
