A housing trend that is growing in popularity across the nation could soon come to Brunswick County. In July, the Brunswick County Planning Board considered and approved a text amendment to its Unified Development Ordinance (UDO), a document that guides development in the county. The amendment makes way for the construction of casitas, or small house-like structures, to be built on recreational vehicle (RV) lots in outdoor RV resorts in the county.
Equipment Financing Company Moves Into New Downtown Office
A growing Wilmington fintech firm moved into a new downtown office earlier this month. Approve, a company that offers a financing and payment platform for equipment sellers, relocated its headquarters from the Cotton Exchange to the corner of Third and Grace streets in early July. The move will help the company accommodate a growing number of employees, according to a news release.
Cape Fear Purple Heart Dinner set for August 2
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The Cape Fear Purple Heart Dinner is set for Friday, August 2, in honor of people wounded or killed while serving in the US Military. The event will be at the UNCW Burney Center at 1005 Price Dr., with registration at 3:30 p.m., a Purple Heart Reception at 4 p.m., sponsors and the general public coming in at 4:15 p.m. and dinner at 5 p.m.

A popular bar and venue on North Fourth Street in Wilmington was the site of an armed robbery over the weekend. Addie Wuensch, owner of Bottega Art & Wine at 723 N. Fourth St. in downtown's Brooklyn Arts District, said a man came into her establishment around 4:50 p.m. Sunday and "pretended like he wanted to buy a soda. He paid with a card (but) it was declined."
