Delphos St. John’s reveals Hall of Fame inductees
DELPHOS — Four Delphos graduates will be inducted into the Delphos St. John’s Hall of Fame in October. This year’s honorees are Dr. Todd Spieles, class of 1966, who owns a chiropractic practice in St. Marys, for professional achievement; Jim Arnzen, 1976, who taught and coached for several schools including Shawnee, for athletic achievement; Dr. Nick Schmit, 1971, a dentist and foundational supporter of the St. John’s choral program, for service to St. John’s; and John Pohlman, 1966, a long-time volunteer for St. John’s Parish, for service to mankind.

Mayor Smith talks about progress in making Lima safer
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Lima's mayor gave an update on her administration's work in several areas, including public safety. The City of Lima currently dedicates more than half of its annual budget to safety services. In the first half of the year, nine police officers and five firefighters were hired. Smith's administration has also been involved in securing raises for the Lima Police Department and allowing lateral hires to help bring even more new officers to Lima. She says policy changes aimed at strengthening safety services have been going on since 2021 and appear to be showing positive results.

July 30, 2024, Press Release from the City of Lima: The Mayor’s GenNext Workforce Development Program is in its final weeks, with 11 interns gaining valuable experience through local employers. The program employs individuals ages 16 to 24 who are residents of the City of Lima and do not have a post-secondary degree. The employers for the internship program included Mercy Health, Bradfield Community Center, We Care Too, Woof Boom Radio Station, ArtSpace/Lima, and the City of Lima.
Final "First Friday" event for 2024 to show appreciation for Lima's first responders

On the night of August 2, they are saluting first responders and have a lot of activities surrounding the women and men who serve and protect the city and county every day. The First Friday events not only showcase some of the businesses in downtown Lima but have a lot of fun activities for families to enjoy.
Assistance available for cooling costs
LIMA — The Area Agency on Aging 3 reminds area residents that through Sept. 30, income-eligible families can receive assistance in paying their electric bill, purchasing an air conditioner or fan or repairing their central air conditioning unit through the Ohio Department of Development’s Home Energy Assistance Summer Crisis Program.
Bunny Hoppers hold last meeting of 2024
VAN WERT—Bunny Hoppers 4-H Club held its last regular meeting of the year on Monday, July 22 at the Extension Office. The meeting was led by President Ella Lamb. Kealey Welch gave a safety speech on rabbit showmanship. Junior Fair entries must be completed by August 16. Meat pens and single fryers must weigh between four and six pounds. Tattooing of meat rabbits will be on August 10 from 7:30 and 10:30 a.m. Livestock judging is on August 6 with no appointment needed.
Mayor Smith updates Lima Rotary on efforts to improve housing such as 3D printing homes in city
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The mayor of Lima gave the Rotary Club an update on the city government's accomplishments over the last six months. Mayor Sharetta Smith explained to Rotarians Monday afternoon how her office has been working towards improving the local economy and quality of life. One of Smith's main areas of focus is handling the lack of safe and affordable housing. There are grant programs available to help both homeowners and landlords improve their properties.

The 2024 Auglaize County Junior Fair King and Queen crowned
WAPAKONETA, OH (WLIO) - New royalty has been coronated Monday night at the Auglaize County Fair in Wapakoneta! Braiden Lee was crowned the 2024 Auglaize County Junior Fair King, while Chloe Pax was honored as the Auglaize County Junior Fair Queen. Over the years, the king and queen have been involved with the Auglaize County Junior Fair Board. Braiden has shown chickens, ducks, goats, and feeder cows, while Chloe has shown rabbits and goats in addition to completing nutrition and special interest projects. Following the coronation, we talked with the new king and queen about what it means to receive the crown.
Auglaize County Fair welcomes public to check out upgrades and diverse entertainment this week
WAPAKONETA, OH (WLIO) - The Auglaize County Fair officially opened Saturday afternoon. This year's fair is shaping up to be another good one. The Junior Fair competitors have been hard at work on their projects, and there's plenty of entertainment for the whole family. Just a few of the events fairgoers can look forward to are the final round of the Country Star Playoffs singing competition on Wednesday, a rodeo on Friday, and a new daily show featuring monkeys riding dogs. Since the last fair, the board has been working with community sponsors to improve existing facilities and add a new one.

Class held at Lima Public Library teaches lead abatement regulations and proper techniques
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - People are learning the proper techniques to remove lead from homes, which could turn into a future business for them. CleanAir RX was teaching a class to people going after a federal certificate for lead abatement to become a Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) contractor. If you are not certified, you can face large fines if you remove lead paint from a home. Besides learning the rules, the participants got some hands-on training to properly remove lead paint from a home. With the certificate, there are a variety of avenues that people can explore.
