A Deltona man was sent to prison Monday for the death of a motorcyclist he was engaged in a high-speed road rage chase on Interstate 4 that ended in a fatal crash near Deltona two years ago.

Kenneth James Lamar Allen, 24, was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading no contest to vehicular homicide on Monday.

He will be on 10 years probation after he is released from lockup, court records show.

Florida Highway Patrol traffic homicide investigators said the incident occurred Oct. 12, 2021 at 11:45 a.m. on I-4 near Saxon Boulevard in Deltona.

According to a traffic homicide report, witnesses said they saw Allen, and the motorcyclist identified as Shawn Harry Keegan, 52, of Sanford, weaving in and out of traffic eastbound on I-4 at high speeds chasing one another.

The incident started when Allen overtook Keegan near the St. Johns Bridge and almost hit Keegan, troopers said.

Allen, who was driving a four-door Volkswagen hatchback, was seen screaming at the motorcyclist, troopers said.

They were both passing one another and hitting the brakes. Then the Harley Davidson motorcycle struck the back of the Volkswagen, ran off the road and hit the guardrail when Keegan was thrown from the bike, troopers said.

    Keegan died at the scene.

A toxicology test revealed Allen had marijuana in his system, and Keegan was driving his motorcycle while drunk, troopers said.

Keegan had a blood alcohol level of .177, more than twice the legal limit of .08, as allowed by Florida law.

Keegan's wife told troopers her husband was on his way to his workplace in DeLand, troopers said.
