Shortly before 4 PM today, July 17, Toccoa Chief of Police Jimmy Mize just advised WNEG News that the second individual being sought in connection to the gunfire yesterday at Regency on W. Currahee Street has been identified as Veon Nicely, 23, of Toccoa. Felony warrants for aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime have been issued for Nicely.

Wreck south of Tallulah Falls injures Three People
Units from Habersham County Emergency Services and the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched at 6:16pm on Friday, July 12, to a wreck with injuries on Expressway 441/Ga. 15 at 441 Old Historic Highway. Engine 17, Engine 9, Med 9, Med 16, Captain 1, and PIO responded, along with several units from the sheriff’s office. That location is just south of Tallulah Falls. Three people were transported by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville for treatment. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating. Southbound traffic on Expressway 441/Ga. 15 was diverted onto 441 Old Historic Highway until about 7:30pm.
One in Custody Following Afternoon Gunfire Near Regency Inn
Update 8:10 PM: Just spoke with Chief Mize: there is minimal information available, as this is an active and ongoing investigation. One individual is in custody and is refusing to speak, Mize said. More information on the identity and location of the second individual is still being sought. Mize said the Crime Investigation Division (CID) has taken charge of the investigation. The information available at this point is that two individuals were shooting at each other; no one was hit, one vehicle was struck and one gun has been recovered. This is all the information that has been released to WNEG News at the moment.
