The next time you're in the middle of a painting project and you're doing your best to avoid getting paint on every single surface of the room, you're going to wish you had tried this hack.

As satisfying as painting can be, it can also be incredibly messy. You have to lay down sheets to protect your walls, you have to tape over your trim to keep it spotless, and most of all, you have to keep your paint can clean. We've all tried to pry open a paint can when it's sealed shut with congealed paint. Not a fun time.

Watch below to learn two game-changing hacks that will forever alter how you paint.

If you are ever in need of some DIY inspiration, then we highly recommend scrolling through the HomeTalk page on TikTok ( @hometalk ). Whether you want to try a viral Dollar Tree hack or you're looking for a cheap way to decorate your home for a holiday, this DIY community page has everything you need.

In this video, they tackle the frustrating process of painting and give you two ways to solve the messy paint problem. We hope you all know to wipe your brush carefully on the inside of the can every time you get more product, but sometimes you can't be too sure.

When paint gets in the outer crevice of the can, that's when frustration really sinks in. Not only is it difficult to put the lid back on, but you're going to make it much harder for your future self to open it back up.

Here are two methods to try to avoid the mess and annoyance.

Top 2 Tips for Avoiding Unwanted Paint Mess

    Try these next time!

    1. Plastic wrap

If you already have a paint can with paint stuck inside the lid rim, don't worry. Hope is not lost! The next time you go to put the lid back on, grab a piece of plastic wrap and cover the can, tucking it in on the sides. Then go ahead and knock the lid into place. This way when you open up the can again, the lid won't get stuck to the remaining paint.

    2. Nail holes

Want to make sure your fresh can doesn't get pools of paint in the rim? Take a hammer and a small nail and puncture three to four holes in the rim. This way any paint left inside that space will ideally drain out into the can, avoiding that whole congealed situation.
