Airbnb has recently leaned into this strength even further by curating a collection of real-life recreations of homes from popular nostalgic media. In the past year alone, Airbnb has hosted exclusive stays in Shrek's swampy home, the X-Mansion from X-Men 97 , and even the floating house from Up .
But for their latest innovative experience, Airbnb is taking inspiration from the toybox. For the first time ever, guests have the opportunity to stay in a life-sized version of Polly Pocket's "Slumber Party Fun" compact house. Seriously, this thing has to be seen to be believed!
OMG. As one of the many kids who grew up playing with Polly Pockets in the 90s, I can't even begin to describe the rush of nostalgia that hit me when I saw this. This vacation home isn't just "inspired" by the Polly Pocket compact, either. As reporter @derekzagami demonstrated with his own Slumber Party Fun compact toy, it's "a full-on replica!"
The Airbnb's unique design truly inspires the same kind of "make-believe" headspace that its grown-up guests felt when playing with Polly Pockets as kids. Everything inside the not-so-compact home looks and operates like it did in the original toy version, and all of the furniture is ever so slightly oversized to make guests feel "just like Polly - a little bit small and pocket-sized," as the Airbnb representative told Derek.
Best of all, the home comes with the one thing no Polly Pocket set is complete without: a fully-stocked wardrobe of life-sized Polly Pocket clothes, made from the same gummy plastic material as their toy counterparts!
Living the Polly Pocket Dream
Like the Up house and the X-Mansion , the super-sized Slumber Party Fun compact comes from Airbnb's new Icons collection , and, like the collection's other experiences, will only be available for a very brief time to a select few guests. Here's what you need to know about the property itself, and what you need to do for a shot at staying here!
The official Polly Pocket Airbnb listing promises guests everything they need to throw a 90s-style slumber party: a bracelet-making station, press-on nails and butterfly hair clips in the vanity, Polaroid cameras, a fully-stocked VHS collection for movie marathons on the pull-out couch, and a collection of iconic 90s candies like Ring Pops, Baby Bottle Pops, and more. Now, I know what you're thinking, and yes: the compact stays completely open to the elements. The good news is, your slumber party fun doesn't have to stop in case of a sudden rainstorm. The actual "sleeping quarters" are in the Action Park Tent a few steps away, which comes stocked with five full sleeping bags. The property's half-bathroom is located inside the compact, though, so bring an umbrella just in case!
Want an invite to the ultimate throwback slumber party ? According to Airbnb's press release , the Polly Pocket compact is located in Littleton, Massachusetts, and will be open for three one-night stays at $89 per person from September 12-14. Guests can request to book a night through the official listing from 6:00 am PT on August 21 to 11:59 pm PT on August 28. The selected guests must be able to cover their own transportation to and from Littleton.
Guests who can't stay overnight can also request to book one of 21 daytime experiences from September 16 to October 6 through the Polly Pocket Playdate page (same request period as the other). Don't miss the chance to step into Polly Pocket's plastic shoes for the day!
