Goodhue County Board backs sharply increased rates for policing contracts
A torn Goodhue County Board of Commissioners has approved a dramatic increase in policing rates for 2025, setting the stage for smaller towns like Wanamingo, which rely on policing contracts with the Sheriff’s Office, to potentially pay much more. City presents 5th & Washington project “reboot;” Crazy Days set for thursday; Online workshop will focus on chloride pollution due to salting of streets, other uses
On Tuesday night during the Northfield Economic Development Authority meeting, the City of Northfield presented what City Administrator Ben Martig called a reboot of the 5th & Washington Street project. The City is once again talking about building a structure on the Washington Street Parking lot that would house a new Northfield Municipal Liquor Store, three levels of parking that would more than double the number of spots on the land right now, four additional 1500 square foot retail spaces, possibly up to 54 apartments, green areas and public spaces, including public restrooms, as well as what the presenters referred to as a “Grasvedt Lane enhancement.”

New bulletproof vests coming for Northfield's first responders
Thanks to the efforts of many donors in Northfield, many of Northfield’s first responders will soon be getting bulletproof vests to wear on the job. The new vests will likely be available to members of the emergency medical services and Northfield area fire and rescue services teams by the end of the year. Veterans, brothers honored with quilts of valor
In mid-July at the American Legion Post 84 in Northfield, three brothers were honored for their service to their country in a special ceremony. Carol Kaune of Quilt of Valor Group Cannon Quilts presented Quilts of Valor to Raymond D. Ozmun (US Army-Camp Rucker, AL) and Richard C. Ozmun (US Navy-USS Forrestal) at the Post meeting on July 16th. Also Post member and brother Eugene D. Ozmun (US Navy-USS Forrestal) was in attendance with his Quilt of Valor which he received in his hometown. The brothers have been members of Post #84 for 70 years, 56 years and 56 years respectively.
