USDA to Gather Farm Conservacation Data
LINCOLN, NE – July 17, 2024 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), in partnership with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), is reaching out to farmers, ranchers, and agricultural landowners to gather in-depth information about the conservation practices they use. Nearly 12,000 operators nationwide will receive the 2024 Conservation Effects Assessment Project survey. Data obtained will support the third set of national and regional cropland assessments delivered by USDA’s Conservation Effects Assessment Project (CEAP), a multi-agency effort led by NRCS to quantify the effects of conservation practices across the nation’s working lands.

Bulldogs push national leading streak of AVCA Team Academic Awards to 26
SEWARD, Neb. – The streak continues for a Concordia University Volleyball program that prides itself on excellence on and off the court. The 2023-24 Bulldog squad became the first in school history to achieve an NAIA coaches’ poll No. 1 national ranking and has pushed the program’s streak of consecutive Team Academic Awards from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) to 26. The active streak ranks No. 1 in the NAIA and tied for first among volleyball programs across all levels of collegiate competition.
Devin Smith recognized as 2023-24 GPAC Athletic Director of the Year
SEWARD, Neb. – In the aftermath of Concordia University, Nebraska winning the 2023-24 GPAC All-Sports Championship Trophy, Bulldog Director of Athletics Devin Smith has been named the 2023-24 Great Plains Athletic Conference Athletics Director of the Year. The official announcement came from the league office on Thursday (July 18), marking the third time Smith has earned this distinction in his tenure leading the Concordia Athletics Department. Smith was also recognized as the GPAC AD of the Year for 2014-15 and 2019-20. Smith has served as the Director of Athletics at his alma mater since June of 2010. His administrative staff includes Associate Director of Athletics Angela Muller and Assistant Athletic Director Levi Calhoun. In addition to three GPAC AD of the Year awards, Smith was named a recipient of the National Athletics Director of the Year Award from the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) in 2021.

Nebraska football moves Brook Berringer statue to new home at Memorial Stadium
LINCOLN — The popular Brook Berringer/Tom Osborne statue at Memorial Stadium has a new home in front of Nebraska football's new football building. The bronze statue, sculpted by Fred Hoppe, had been located in front of the North Stadium entrance since its unveiling in 2006. It features legendary coach Tom Osborne pointing to a field with one hand while the other rests on the shoulder of Berringer, a former Nebraska quarterback who helped NU win the 1994 and 1995 national titles before dying in April 1996 in a small plane crash.
