McVeigh signs contract with Houston Rockets
A former Nebraska basketball player has signed a contract to play in the NBA. Forward Jack McVeigh has agreed to a two-way deal with the Houston Rockets. The Australian played three seasons for the Cornhuskers (2015-2018). He would appear in 78 games at Nebraska, averaging 5.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. McVeigh would depart Nebraska after his junior season due to reduced playing time and sign with the Adelaide 36ers of Australia’s National Basketball League. He would spend the 2024 season with the Tasmania JackJumpers. McVeigh averaged 16.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. He was named to the All-NBL Second Team and was also the MVP of the championship series. McVeigh recently earned a spot on a basketball team for the 2024 Paris Olympics representing his home country of Australia. Nebraska offers 2027 tight end from California powerhouse
The Nebraska Cornhuskers are the latest program to offer 2027 tight end Mark Bowman. On Tuesday, the Huskers extended an offer to the 6-foot-5 Bowman, who attends California powerhouse Mater Dei in Santa Ana, California. Despite being only a 2027 prospect, Bowman has put together a tremendous offer sheet, including Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Miami (FL), Ole Miss, Ohio State, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, USC, Utah, and Washington. Bowman appeared in eight varsity games as a freshman. In those eight appearances, he made 11 catches for 125 yards and four touchdowns. The Cornhuskers currently do not hold any commitments in their 2027 recruiting class. Matt Rhule and the company are currently focused on their 2025 recruiting class, which holds 16 commitments, including picking up a commitment from Texas defensive back Bryson Webber over the weekend. Husker golfer Quinn Yost earns Spangler Award
LINCOLN, Neb. (NEBRASKA ATHLETICS) - Quinn Yost was named the 2023-24 winner of the Dick Spangler Golf Scholarship, Nebraska men’s golf head coach Judd Cornell announced. Yost, a junior from Farmington, N.M., produced a trio of top-25 individual finishes as a sophomore, including a pair of top-10 performances in 2023-24. He competed in 21 rounds for the Huskers and posted a 73.38 stroke average, which marked a 2.68 strokes-per-round improvement over his freshman campaign. Yost was also an Academic All-Big Ten honoree as a business administration major. He is a four-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection.
Nebraska honors Tom Osborne and Brook Berringer outside new athletic complex
The Nebraska Football team has honored Hall of Fame Coach Tom Osborne outside their new athletic complex. A statue of Osborne and quarterback Brook Berringer has been installed outside the Osborne Legacy Complex. Fred Hoppe sculpted the statue, which was initially installed outside the Osborne Athletic Complex on the north side of Memorial Stadium in 2006. Nebraska Countdown to Kickoff: No. 45 RB Izaac Dickey
Just 45 days remain until kickoff of Nebraska football program’s 125th season. In the player spotlight with officially a month and a half to go before August 31 is Nebraska freshman running back Izaac Dickey. The 5-foot-10, 210-pound Dickey walked-on to the Huskers this offseason after officially committing to the program last June. Dickey is a native of Stromsburg, Nebraska and had a terrific career at Cross County High School where he was a three-year starter at fullback for the Cougars. During his high school career, Dickey totaled nearly 1,800 rushing yards and 40 touchdowns. He was also a standout on defense with over 200 career tackles. With the Huskers, Dickey will be a valuable depth piece in the backfield. Pearson named GPAC Athletic Trainer Of The Year
CRETE, NEB. - Doane University is getting some recognition in the first ever GPAC Athletic Trainer of the Year award. Doane Athletic Trainer Ethan Pearson has won the honor, becoming the initial recipient. Pearson is Director of Sports Medicine at Doane, a position he took over in July 2019. He has served as an Athletic Trainer for the Tigers since August 2016.
