Man killed in crash while hauling trash in southwest Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A McCook city employee was killed Thursday morning in a crash. Just before 8 a.m., a semitrailer hauling trash crashed in Hitchcock County, according to the city. The driver, Wayne Cook, was pronounced dead. He was heading to a landfill near Ogallala, the city said.

Safety Omar Brown selected by DC in 2024 UFL Draft
The UFL held its 2024 Draft on Wednesday, providing numerous players an opportunity to play football professionally. The Nebraska football team sat back and witnessed one of its own selected. The DC Defenders selected former Husker safety Omar Brown in the tenth round of the UFL draft. He joins a Defenders team that put together a 4-6 record in 2024 and lost the 2023 XFL Championship game. In his collegiate career, Brown racked up 196 total tackles across five seasons, delivered 11 tackles for loss, forced three fumbles, and snatched nine interceptions. He spent his final two seasons of collegiate action at Nebraska....
Huskers add Transfers Yuzu Miyoshi, Tiziana Rossini
The Nebraska women’s tennis team continues to build its roster with the addition of sophomore transfers Yuzu Miyoshi and Tiziana Rossini for the 2024-25 season. Miyoshi competed at No. 1 singles and doubles as a freshman at Sophia University in Japan and was named the 2022 player of the year. From Kawasaki, Kagawa, Japan, Miyoshi joins the Big Red with three years of eligibility remaining. Prior to college, she competed in the Kanto Junior Tennis Championship and was named Japan Junior Tennis Tour Champions - Champion.
Kansas defensive end to visit Nebraska on July 27
A defensive end from Kansas has scheduled a visit with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Hunter Higgins will visit the Lincoln campus on July 27. His visit will come just days after his July 25 visit to the Oklahoma Sooners. The three-star prospect plays for Maize South High School in Wichita, Kansas. National recruiting analyst Tom Lemming had high praise for Higgins last December. He wrote, (Higgins) should be become a national recruit. Excellent length, quick hands and feet and shows explosive moves to the ball. Tenacious and tough. Terrific attitude. 3.9 GPA. The recruit has been a popular player recently.
