Calhoun County breaks ground on a future recycle center collection site

Calhoun County and Formosa Plastics Corporation, Texas, broke ground on Monday, May 6 to make way for a future recycle center. The county already has a recycle center but has plans to expand it and add much-needed enhancements.

“We are going to build a hurricane-proof building that can hold more recyclable materials. The building will have a concrete push wall and roll-off container, which will make things more efficient for our partner Republic Services. Presently, Republic Services is making frequent trips to its sorting facility in Corpus Christi, Texas. This will allow Republic Services to reduce the number of trips and thus reduce our carbon footprint because the site will hold more materials,” Calhoun County Precinct 2 Commissioner Vern Lyssy said.
