Analyst on Russell Wilson's Broncos Tenure: 'Just Not Good Enough'

After two seasons in Denver, Russell Wilson's time as a Bronco is over. In what some have called the worst trade in NFL history, Wilson and Denver will part ways in a move that makes fans shake their heads.

Initially signed to be the reason why the Broncos could be Super Bowl candidates in 2022, Wilson and co. simply didn't get anything going (4-11 record with Wilson starting) and after two seasons and an 11-19 record, finally, Denver has had enough.

Former Broncos offensive lineman and current Fox Sports commentator Mark Schlereth, who won two Super Bowls with the franchise in 1998 & 99, recently gave his thoughts on Wilson's tumultuous tenure at Mile High.

“I’m going to say thank goodness,” Schlereth said on The Pat McAfee Show . “Because the way Russ played, the way he’s played the last couple of years, he’s diminished. He doesn’t throw the ball in the middle of the football field, he doesn’t anticipate throws. You can sit here and tell me all day long 26 TDs, eight interceptions, I’ll tell you garbage numbers. The things he does, he’s just not good enough anymore.”

It is hard to argue against Schlereth's comments and despite Wilson having a "better" 2023 season (the 26 TDs, eight interceptions), he still had a 7-8 record through 15 games as just twice the offense scored 30+ points and seven times scored under 20 points.

Now with the decks cleared, many think Denver will be taking a quarterback in the upcoming draft to try and hit the reset button.

Wilson was thought to be the savior for the Broncos when he signed, but he proved to be anything but. Now Schlereth, and perhaps the Denver fanbase, is happy to see Wilson no longer part of the franchise.
