The National Hockey League Productions and Box To Box Films, the producers of “Drive to Survive,” collaborated with Prime Video to create a behind-the-scenes docuseries on a handful of players, including Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog.

“This is so meaningful for our league. Box To Box has revolutionized modern storytelling for Formula 1, golf and tennis,” NHL chief content officer and senior executive vice president Steve Mayer said. “With the full support of the League, players, coaches and owners, we welcome the opportunity to showcase our stars and the greatest season and postseason in sports – the Stanley Cup Playoffs – to a global audience.”

The production is not finished as it will continue to highlight Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk and Edmonton Oilers forwards Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl throughout the Stanley Cup Final. A title for the series and release date have not been announced but the timeframe is fall 2024.

Other players involved in the project are:

    • New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba
    • Boston Bruins teammates David Pastrnak and Jeremy Swayman
    • Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes
    • Vegas Golden Knights forward Jack Eichel
    • Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander
    • Nashville Predators forward Filip Forsberg

“This generation of NHL superstars are modern day gladiators unlike anything ever seen before, with big personalities and even bigger play makers, and we have the perfect partners to capture that energy for an unparalleled sports docuseries,” Shaun Alperin, Prime Video Canada's head of content, said. “Working with Box To Box Films and NHL Productions we cannot wait to bring to the screen the passion, the intensity, and the sheer excitement of the road to the Stanley Cup final, revealing what fans have only speculated goes on behind the scenes of the world’s fastest team sport.”

Landeskog has missed the last two seasons and is a year-plus out on his recovery from knee cartilage replacement surgery. His storyline will be on his healing and recovery journey, and how his role as captain shifted being out of the lineup and off the ice.

"It's a different, different dynamic, obviously. And I think at the end of the day, it's hard to sort of — you're going through mental gymnastics on your own to get your mind right, to just keep going, keep putting one foot in front of the other for your own health and for your own career sake," Landeskog told The Hockey News' Colleen Flynn. "And at the same time, kind of be that sounding board for for the guys, right? Like you're sort of torn there between between the two, but at the end of the day, you just try to kind of be there for the guys support them."

The docuseries will premiere in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide on Prime Video. The company also recently announced the addition of "Prime Monday Night Hockey" — a regular season stream of Monday night NHL games exclusively on Prime Video in Canada.
