Coming into the 2024 offseason, the Denver Broncos had to make sure they got it right. They had to make sure they got every single decision right, as there really was no more margin for error. A franchise as pristine and prestigious as this one cannot afford to continue having the same type of seasons over and over again.

Ever since 2015, the year they won their last Super Bowl, the Broncos have not been able to nail the toughest thing to nail in the NFL - grabbing a franchise quarterback. Sure, it is hard to follow up on what Peyton Manning did, but they haven't had a quarterback who has been good enough to lead them to the playoffs since. They also haven't had a coach to help them get there, either.

They think they finally got their quarterback after drafting rookie QB Bo Nix , and they aren't the only ones to think that.

"The best fit in this draft was Bo Nix going to Sean Payton," former Broncos offensive lineman Mark Schlereth said on the Jim Rome Show.

Nix is a guy who is pinpoint accurate, played a lot of college football at a very high level, and did not turn the ball over very often during his last two years of college. And, he commands a huddle. Players want to play with and for him, and that's very important.

As far as the coaching-quarterback fit, they definitely nailed that, too. The Nix - Payton duo has already drawn comparisons to Payton and Drew Brees from back in the day , and Nix has yet to throw a pass in a live NFL game. It helps that Payton is known as a great head coach to construct an amazing offense around a young quarterback.

"Offensively, the guy just understands the offense, he understands all the things you have to understand to be a great offensive mind, a great offensive player, and a great offense in general, but he's also a real connective guy." Schlereth continued. "And so when people say 'Oh he's so arrogant, and he ran Russell Wilson off,' there are, what, six guys that played for him in New Orleans that decided to sign in Denver. That would tell me if I didn't like him, and I thought he was a turd, and I thought he was that kind of guy then you're not signing to go play for him as a backup."

The Broncos may have finally gotten it right. Before we can declare anything, though, we may need to see the two work together a bit during the regular season. But, things are looking good so far.
