Broncos Wire’s 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at second-year cornerback Riley Moss, No. 21 (previously No. 37).

Before the Broncos: Moss (6-1, 194 pounds) played college football at Iowa, gaining an extra year of eligibility from COVID-19. A two-time first-team All-Big Ten recipient, Moss was named the conference’s Defensive Back of the Year after breaking up five passes and intercepting four passes in 2021.

Moss was also named a third-team All-American in 2021. From 2018-2022, Moss recorded 158 tackles, 26 pass breakups, 11 interceptions, three defensive touchdowns, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in 54 games.

Broncos tenure: Denver picked Moss in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft last spring. Moss then underwent core muscle surgery, which undoubtedly impacted his rookie season. The 24-year-old cornerback dressed for 14 games last fall but only played 23 snaps on defense (he also played 265 snaps on special teams).

Chances to make the 53-man roster: Near lock. Moss had a disappointing rookie year, but at least some of the blame can be attributed to offseason surgery. The Broncos will count on Moss to have a bounce-back year in 2024. He’s competing for a starting job this summer and even if he doesn’t start in Week 1, Moss is essentially a lock to make the team.
