    Denver Broncos QB Zach Wilson

Zach Wilson’s life has looked to be fantastic since moving to Colorado.

Just months after ending his short tenure with the New York Jets, Zach Wilson got a fresh new hair cut , got engaged to his long-time girlfriend and is now competing for the starting quarterback job with the Denver Broncos alongside rookie QB Bo Nix and incumbent signal-caller Jarrett Stidham.

Prior to being traded to Denver, the former second overall pick was serving as Aaron Rodgers's backup with the New York Jets. The combination of a young, rebuilding team and the pressures of New York’s media market proved challenging. Wilson’s rookie season was marred by inconsistency, as he struggled with decision-making and accuracy. Despite flashes of brilliance, turnovers and injuries plagued his early career.

The 2022 season offered more of the same and by the end of 2023, the Jets’ patience seemed to be wearing thin. During three partial seasons as the Jets starting quarterback, Wilson threw 23 touchdowns compared to 25 interceptions. Questions started to arise about whether Wilson was the right fit for the team and whether the high expectations were weighing too heavily on the young quarterback.

Enter July 2024 and Wilson finds himself with a new opportunity in a different environment. Traded to the Denver Broncos in a move that surprised many, Wilson now has the chance to reinvent himself away from the relentless scrutiny of New York. The Broncos, a team with a rich history of quarterback success, could be the perfect landing spot for Wilson to rediscover his confidence and showcase his talents.

The change of scenery is already proving beneficial. In Denver, Wilson will be surrounded by a solid offensive line, a talented receiving core and a head coach who believes in his potential. The pressure to immediately turn a franchise around is alleviated, allowing him to focus on his development and growth.

Preseason reports and early games indicate that Wilson is embracing his new role with enthusiasm. He has displayed improved decision-making, a quicker release, and a better command of the offense. The Broncos’ offensive scheme, tailored to maximize his strengths, is providing Wilson with the structure he needs to thrive.

If Wilson continues on this upward trajectory, the impact on both his career and the Broncos’ fortunes could be significant. A successful season could cement his status as a franchise quarterback, shedding the doubts that have lingered since his early struggles. For the Broncos, a revitalized Wilson could be the key to returning to playoff contention and competing in a tough AFC West.
