Justin Simmons remains a free agent, but there is one major reason he won't come back to Broncos

Former Denver Broncos safety Justin Simmons is still on the free-agent market, a surprise to some who expected him to get scooped up immediately after the Broncos made the difficult decision to release him this offseason .

The move saved the Broncos $14.5 million in salary cap space and that is why the move was made, but since Simmons has still yet to sign elsewhere, many Broncos fans have speculated that Simmons could be brought back on a less-lucrative deal.

It may not be money that is keeping Simmons away from the Broncos but rather, something the team can't currently offer.

Justin Simmons is carefully selecting his new team

Simmons will be on an NFL roster in 2024. You can just about guarantee that he's already had some offers. But as one of the best safeties in the league, Simmons wants to be paid well for his services. More than that, he wants to play for a team with a chance to win it all.

It's hard to blame Simmons for that approach. In eight seasons with the Broncos, he never played in one postseason game. There isn't much to indicate that he would have a chance to change that any time soon, either.

While the Broncos may have been happy to clear the contract of Simmons, he may have been just as happy to get a fresh start.

Simmons has still been involved in his commitments within the community and has yet to make any negative remarks toward his former team. He will likely sign with a new team soon and begin preparing for the 2024 season where he will have a chance to be on a contender... which is why he won't be back in Denver.
