DENVER ( KDVR ) — Frontier Airlines issued a ground stop Thursday evening due to a technical problem that left passengers waiting in terminals, including at Denver International Airport.

In a statement Thursday evening, the airline said its “flight operations are currently being impacted by a major Microsoft technical outage.” Frontier, which is headquartered in Denver, said it is “working with outside vendors to restore normal operations.”

At about 8:45 p.m., the airline said the ground stop had been lifted, and systems were “gradually normalizing.”

“We are in the process of resuming flight operations,” Frontier stated.

The airline said the outage was affecting other companies , and said booking, check-in, access to boarding passes and some flights “may be impacted.”

Frontier customers were left without answers after their flights were canceled.

Some took to social media, complaining they couldn’t use Frontier’s app or website to book replacement flights and weren’t getting answers from gate agents.

FOX31’s Greg Nieto went to DIA, where he found a line of angry customers.

Ray, a customer at DIA, was headed to St. Louis with his wife, Annie, to see their granddaughter, but was told the system “crashed” and their flight was canceled 20 minutes before their flight.

“They sent us a thing to rebook, and now if I refresh to go to where I rebook, it won’t even let me do that,” Annie told Nieto. “All these people are in line, apparently it was a worldwide thing.”

Both said they probably won’t book future flights with Frontier. They said they’d been at DIA for hours, and at about 7 p.m. decided to leave DIA and take up a family member’s offer of a room.

FOX31 is continuing to cover this developing story and will update this article with more details throughout the evening.
