Denver weather: Cooler Sunday with rain, thunderstorms ahead of heat

DENVER (KDVR) — More rain and cooler temperatures are in the Denver weather forecast for Sunday, lingering through the start of the work week before temperatures in the 90s return.
Weather tonight: Severe thunderstorm warning in Denver metro area
The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Denver metro area through 9:30 p.m., including Denver, the Denver International Airport, Westminster, Thornton, Broomfield, Brighton, Hudson, Lafayette and other surrounding areas.
The Denver International Airport is on an arrival/departure delay. As of 10:15 p.m., the airport said 27 flights were diverted, but conditions were starting to improve.
Another warning was issued for areas including Centennial, Castle Rock, Parker, and Elizabeth due to heavy rain, penny-sized hail, and winds up to 60 mph.

Showers and a few thunderstorms will linger Saturday night. Low temperatures will fall to the upper 50s.
Weather tomorrow: Cooler, rainy
More rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast for Sunday. Temperatures will be cooler, and only reach the upper 70s, which is nearly 15 degrees cooler than normal for this time of year.
Looking ahead: Cool start to the workweek, then warmer and drier
Cooler weather sticks around the forecast Monday, with highs only reaching the lower 80s, alongside a chance for more showers and thunderstorms by the afternoon.
Sunshine starts to move back into the forecast on Tuesday. This will be followed by a warming trend. Highs Tuesday will reach the mid-80s, the lower 90s Wednesday, and mid-90s Thursday and Friday.
