More than 10 months after suffering a torn patella tendon, Broncos safety Caden Sterns won't be ready for the start of training camp.

The Broncos on Sunday placed Sterns on the physically unable to perform list, meaning he won't take the field for this week's start of camp. Sterns was hurt in the Sept. 10 opener against the Las Vegas Raiders and sat out the rest of the season with the knee injury. He did not take part in offseason drills.

The Broncos, as expected, also placed safety Dalarrin Turner-Yell and linebacker Drew Sanders on the PUP list. Turner-Yell suffered a torn ACL on Dec. 31 against the Los Angeles Chargers, the next-to-last game of the season. Sanders suffered a torn Achilles shortly after the start of spring drills in April. But the hope is he will be back during the second half of the season.

Denver did not place tight end Greg Dulcich or rookie running back Audric Estime on the PUP list, meaning both are expected to take the field early in camp. Dulcich, who has been bothered by hamstring injuries and missed 22 of 34 games his first two seasons, did not participate in spring drills. Estime suffered a knee injury in May during organized team activities. And head coach Sean Payton has said he would be ready for the start of training camp.

Broncos rookies reported to Broncos Park for camp last Wednesday and veterans will report Tuesday. The first practice open to fans will be Friday.

By placing Sterns, Turner-Yell and Sanders on the PUP list before camp, it means they would be eligible to be put on the PUP list for the start of the regular season, a move that requires a player sitting out at least the first four games. Players can be taken off the PUP list during camp, and be eligible to play at the start of the season, which could be a possibility for Sterns. Turner-Yell and Sanders won't be ready for the start of the season.
