The Denver Broncos were in stalled contract talks with wide receiver Courtland Sutton in June. His deal has now been restructured so that the wideout will receive an additional $1.5 million in incentives. Sutton, who turns 29 on Oct. 10, is in the third year of a four-year, $60.8 million deal he signed during the 2021 season.

Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton can earn up to $15.2 million in the 2024 NFL season

Sutton, who originally had a base salary of $13 million, can earn up to $15.2 million this NFL season. He already had $500,000 worth of roster bonuses in place in his deal for the season. Additionally, $2 million of his base salary had already been guaranteed because he was on the roster at the end of March.

“[Broncos general manager George Payton and Sutton’s representatives] spent a lot of time in the summer, just discussing it,” coach Sean Payton said. “It’s good to have him back out here. He provides leadership as well as a skillset that we like.”

Sutton said at the team’s June minicamp he may consider reporting late to training camp. However, he reported on time with the team’s other veterans earlier this week. The 6-foot-4, 216-pounder was also present for the offense’s first two practices of camp Wednesday and Thursday.

“He and I would have talks just relative to what his summer plans were,” Payton said after Thursday’s practice. “I don’t think there was a lot of change to how [Sutton’s contract] was structured, but it’s good to have him out there.”

Sutton led Denver in receptions and receiving yards last season

According to Spotrac, Courtland Sutton’s restructured contract does not affect next season. He remains under contract for Denver in 2025 with a $13.5 million base salary and none of it guaranteed.

Sutton was selected 40th overall by the Broncos during the second round of the 2018 NFL draft out of SMU. Through 81 career games (69 starts), he has totals of 298 receptions, 4,259 receiving yards, 24 touchdown receptions, and 192 first downs.

His best season came in 2019 when he posted his only 1,000-yard season (1,112), a career-best 72 receptions, and was selected to his only Pro Bowl.

Though, he has yet to return to that level since tearing his ACL in 2020. For what it’s worth, he led the Broncos in receptions (59) and receiving yards (772) last season. Over the past three years, he has 2,377 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns while averaging 13.1 yards per catch.
