    14 arrested at DUI checkpoints in Denver Friday night: Police

    DENVER (KDVR) — Fourteen people were arrested at three DUI checkpoints across the Denver metro area Friday night, according to the Denver Police Department.

    The checkpoints were part of a partnership between DPD, the Lakewood Police Department, the Arvada Police Department and the Colorado Department of Transportation .

    Three checkpoints were set up, one in the 800 block of South Sheridan Boulevard in Lakewood, one in the 5500 block of North Wadsworth Boulevard in Arvada and one in the 3400 block of Park Avenue West in Denver.

    In total, 656 vehicles were contacted at the three checkpoints. 38 drivers were evaluated for drug or alcohol influence and 14 were arrested for DUI.

    Arvada contacted the most vehicles, but Denver saw the most arrests.

    The breakdown by city:

    • Lakewood: 148 vehicles contacted, 10 drivers evaluated, two drivers arrested
    • Arvada: 269 vehicles contacted, 13 drivers evaluated, three drivers arrested
    • Denver: 239 vehicles contacted, 15 drivers evaluated, 9 drivers arrested

    According to CDOT, so far in 2024, there have been 104 fatal crashes in Colorado involving an impaired driver. Of these, 39 took place in the Denver metro area.
