The Rockies made their second move ahead of the MLB trade deadline, shipping relief pitcher Jalen Beeks to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for pitching prospect Luis Peralta.

MLB.com reported the move late Monday.

The 31-year-old Beeks appeared in 45 games this season for the Rockies, throwing 49 ⅓ innings with a 4.74 ERA. He had nine saves and seven blown saves. The Rockies picked him up off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays.

In exchange, the Rockies received an arm they hope will contribute to their future. The 23-year-old Luis Peralta is a left-handed pitcher who was Pittsburgh's No. 24-ranked prospect, according to Baseball America. This season he's thrown for High-A Greensboro and Double-A Altoona, going 4-0 with a 0.91 ERA over 26 appearances.

Peralta is the younger brother of Milwaukee's Freddy Peralta.

The Rockies traded reliever Nick Mears to the Brewers Sunday. The trade deadline is 4 p.m. Tuesday.
