Denver Broncos make a somewhat shocking decision to release former Texas football stud during training camp

A few years ago, there was talk of the Denver Broncos having two really good safeties behind Justin Simmons and Kareem Jackson -- good enough to possibly take over the starting job in the future. Obviously, something has happened since, because half of that happened, and the other half didn't.

Justin Simmons was let go and has still yet to sign somewhere, and P.J. Locke, one-half of that dynamic safety duo that used to be a backup, is now the starter. The other half was Caden Sterns, a former Texas safety who had a lot of hope and promise after being developed.

Well, maybe that's what the thoughts were of the former regime because that's not what's going to happen anymore. Now, it looks like J.L. Skinner will be that guy instead of Sterns.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Broncos are set to release Sterns. It hasn't been one yet, but they have informed Sterns that they are going that route.

Sterns played at Texas and was a pretty good player, so much so that as a safety he went in the third round. Sterns played just 21 games in three years, and finished his Broncos career with four interceptions, nine pass deflections, and 49 tackles. He was going into his fourth year, but will now be looking to get onto another team.
