DENVER ( KDVR ) — The Olympics end on Sunday, and some Coloradans are bringing home the gold. Meanwhile, there are still a few more medal spots up for grabs.
These Coloradans are heading to the 2024 Summer Olympics As of Tuesday morning, Team USA has won a total of 79 medals with 21 gold, 30 silver and 28 bronze, making the United States the country with the most medals so far.
Coloradans who medaled in 2024 Olympics
Among the hundreds of United States athletes, 29 Coloradans qualified and two have won medals so far.
Emma Weber – Gold
Emma Weber, from Boulder, was the first Coloradan to bring home a medal from the 2024 Olympics. The Regis Jesuit High School alum raced in the women’s 4×100 swim medley relay heat on Saturday. She was replaced in Sunday’s final, but Team USA was able to break a world record and finished in first place to bring home the gold.
Valarie Allman – Gold
On Monday, Valarie Allman, from Longmont, won her second straight Olympic title in the discus throw. The graduate from Silver Creek High School went 68.74 meters on her second throw and 69.50 on her fourth, which was enough to win gold and beat Feng Bin of China and Sandra Elkasevic of Croatia.
Coloradans still in the running for a medal
There are several finals left in the Olympics, leaving a few more Coloradans with the chance to bring back some hardware.
Colorado discus thrower wins Olympic gold medal for US Lindsey Horan, Mallory Swanson and Sophia Smith are in the soccer semifinal against Germany on Tuesday at 10 a.m., while Jordyn Poulter with women’s volleyball played at 9 a.m. on Tuesday in the quarterfinals against Poland.
