Several Deadly Viruses Detected in Central New York Mosquitoes
More deadly viruses are making their way into Central New York. And mosquitoes are to blame. Traps from Mosquito pools in Onondaga County show the presence of several viruses. The West Nile and Flanders viruses were detected in the Town of Cicero. Both viruses along with the Eastern Equine Encephalitis and Highlands J viruses were found in East Syracuse. That's in addition to the Flanders and Jamestown Canyon viruses discovered on July 16.

After pushback from public, Manlius drops proposed $2.8 million land purchase for new town hall
Manlius, NY - The Manlius Town Board has decided it won’t pursue buying a parcel of land for $2.8 million for a new town hall. Manlius Town Supervisor John Deer initially wanted to sign a purchase agreement for the eight-acre parcel on North Burdick Street, and then analyze whether it would be a workable site. Teenager Walks into Hospital with Gunshot Wound, Police Investigate
(WNY News Now) – SYRACUSE, NY – A 17-year-old male walked into University Hospital with a gunshot wound to his left hand, prompting an active police investigation. On Saturday, July 20, 2024, at approximately 9:47 p.m., uniformed officers with the Syracuse Police Department responded to University Hospital at 750 East Adams Street. The officers found the teenage victim in the emergency room, suffering from injuries consistent with being struck by gunfire. The victim’s injuries are not life-threatening.

FamilyCare Looks to Drop Excellus by End of Year
In a letter issued to their patients, the FamilyCare Medical Group says they look to drop Excellus by the end of December this year. “We have notified Excellus Health Plan (Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Central New York) of our intention to terminate our professional provider agreement on December 31, 2024. We did so well in advance of our 90-day notice. We did so to give our valued patients time to prepare.”
