All-CNY softball player earns roster spot for national showcase game
Syracuse, N.Y. — Fayetteville-Manlius shortstop Megan Woodridge is about to take her spot in a lineup filled with some of the best high school softball prospects nationwide. Woodridge has been named to a team of juniors who will take on upcoming seniors in the prestigious Premier Girls Fastpitch Futures All-American game. The contest is Saturday in Irvine, Calif.

Kyle McCord got the keys to the offense of one of college football's most prestigious programs last season at Ohio State after sitting behind C.J. Stroud for two seasons. On paper the 6-foot-3 gunslinger's first year under center for the Buckeyes looked to be a successful one as he went 11-1 alongside his former St. Joe's Prep teammate and wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., who is now with the Arizona Cardinals. But at a program like Ohio State that has national championship aspirations and beating "that team up north," it wasn't. This led McCord to enter the transfer portal in December before the Cotton Bowl.
Jamestown Canyon? Flanders? Highlands J? CNY mosquitoes carry several viruses
Mosquitoes trapped in Onondaga County have tested positive for several different viruses. The county health department says West Nile, EEE, Highlands J viruses are the latest to be detected in Cicero and East Syracuse. Last week, test results confirmed the presence of Flanders and Jamestown Canyon Viruses. Health department medical director Dr. Jim Alexander says the risk to humans is quite low.
