Cortland (NY) FD Receives $50K Grant to Replace Supply Hose
The city of Cortland Fire Department announced recently that it has received an Assistance to Firefighters Grant award of $50,000, the department said in a press release. This award will allow the department to replace all of the supply hoses. This hose is a large diameter hose (LDH) used to bring water from the fire hydrants to the fire apparatus or go directly from apparatus to apparatus. Currently, the city’s water infrastructure places hydrants roughly every 300 feet. However, firefighters will often use more than one hydrant and try to obtain a backup hydrant of a separate water main, leading to longer distances between the apparatus and the hydrant.

Occhino, who will be a senior at Christian Brothers Academy, is just coming off a very productive two weeks of competition in Detroit. Sidewalk work begins on Main Street; other project updates included
Construction crews have begun sidewalk work on Main Street in Cortland, along with other projects. According to an update from Crown City Rising, crews began pouring sidewalks on the west side of Main Street between Clinton Avenue and Court Street, along with road grading in that area on the east side of the street.
24-year-old man shot in the leg in Syracuse
Syracuse, N.Y. — A 24-year-old man was shot in the leg in Syracuse on Monday, police said. Around 9:42 p.m. police responded to Upstate University Hospital where a man with a gunshot wound on his leg was being treated police said. The man is expected to survive, police said.

Nearly $2M in tax breaks approved to make Syracuse office building into apartments
Syracuse, N.Y. — A $13 million project to convert a mostly empty downtown Syracuse office building into 35 apartments will get some help from taxpayers.
