Another blast of hot weather in Central NY could bring a historic heat wave
Syracuse, N.Y. -- A blast of hot air will hit Central New York this weekend, bringing the chance of a historic heat wave. Sunday and Monday are expected to be in the low 90s in Syracuse, according to the National Weather Service. If Tuesday also reaches 90 -- the forecast is 89 -- that would be Syracuse’s fifth heat wave of the summer.

Syracuse native Symir Torrence signs with an overseas pro basketball team
Syracuse, N.Y. -- Syracuse native Symir Torrence will play professional basketball in Finland next season. Torrence said Friday he had been in contact with the team’s coach, Konsta Mastomaki, and will play for LoKoKo Bisons Loimaa in the Finnish Korisliiga league. The team finished 10-22 last season, but has hired a new coach in Mastomaki.

A woman is killed and a man is injured when their upstate New York house explodes
LINCOLN, N.Y. (AP) — A woman was killed and a man was injured when their upstate New York house exploded, authorities said. The house exploded just after 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the town of Lincoln in Madison County. Crews from several police and fire departments arrived at the scene and found a man and a woman trapped in debris, said Samantha Field, a spokesperson for the county. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and the man was airlifted to a hospital, she said. The man’s condition wasn’t immediately released.

Cortland Repertory Theatre will close their 53rd summer season with a three-week run of the popular musical “Disney's Beauty and the Beast”. This production will run from July 31 - August 17 at the Little York Pavilion, with evening performances at 7:30 PM. Matinees at 2:00 PM are available on August 2, 6, 7, 11, and 14.
