State softball preview: 5 CIML schools begin quest for Class 5A title on Monday
The state softball tournament gets under way on Monday with the Class 5A quarterfinals at Harlan Rogers Park. The Class 5A field includes the top four teams in the final rankings, but a rash of upsets in regional play also saw three teams ranked ninth or lower make it to Fort Dodge along with unranked Cedar Rapids Prairie.

Jackson Wentworth, a 2021 graduate of Waukee High School, has been selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2024 Major Baseball League (MLB) draft. While in high school, Jackson won 17 games as a starting pitcher, helped lead the Warriors to two state tournaments, and was ranked as the No. 2 right-handed pitcher in the state by Perfect Game.
