DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Parks and Recreation Department is making sure all residents can enjoy a day at the pool.

The department is launching a brand-new program at Nahas, Northwest, and Teachout aquatic centers. Sensory Swim provides individuals and families with a calming and relaxing experience. Starting July 7 th , from noon until 12:45 on Sundays, you can expect no music and features to be turned off to accommodate attendees.

Service cuts at DART include Wi-Fi on buses

“There’s not as much for small children to do in a large pool like this. That was the reason for the shift. Some of the feedback from the families is why we’re going to shift to the aquatic centers,” said Janis Steele with City of Des Moines Parks and Recreation. “It’s my desire to be as inclusive as possible and provide programming in the community that so everyone can participate, everyone can play.”

Regular admission will get you access to the aquatic centers. You can also purchase a season pass on the City of Des Moines Parks and Rec website .
